The PETROLEUM GEOLOGY STUDENT CONTEST will be held the October 4th and 5th 2017, in the beautiful town of Calvello (Potenza), in the heart of the woods of the Basilicata Region of Italy.
The workshop is aimed at offering the opportunity to eight PhD students and ten MSc students currently enrolled at the University, or who have just terminated their studies, to show the results of their research to an audience of academic and industrial geologists.
Original research works dealing with the several aspects of petroleum geology, such as tectonics, regional geology, basin analysis, sequence stratigraphy, applied sedimentology, structural geology, seismic data acquisition, processing and interpretation, petrophysics, rock physics, reservoir modelling, fluid flow simulation, applied mineralogy, etc. are welcome.
In order to participate, PhD. and MSc students must submit an abstract not longer than 400 words (besides title, author's name, affiliation/s, figure captions and references) through the website: www.petroleumgeologystudentcontest.com. ONLY one figure is
accepted. All abstracts will be published in a special volume edited by ITALIAN GEOLOGICAL SOCIETY.
The deadline for abstract submission is July 31st 2017.
The eight selected PhD students will provide a 25 minute-long oral presentations, whereas the selected MSc students will deliver a poster presentation.
Based upon the evaluation of a judging committee, the best PhD and MSc student presentations will be awarded with two grants of 5,000 Euro and 2,000 Euro, respectively, funded by Shell Italia E&P. All room & boarding expenses for the presenters will also be kindly offered by the sponsor.
Registration is free. Further information will be available in a forthcoming circular, which will include details on logistics, accommodation and workshop agenda.
The whole geological community is invited to attend the workshop, looking forward a stimulating chance to appreciate the state of the art of the research in the Petroleum Geoscience field provided by young scientists.
