9th International Bioerosion Workshop

23rd-27th october 2017

Rome – Istituto Superiore per la Conservazione ed il Restauro

The 9th International Bioerosion Workshop (IBW) will be held at the Istituto Superiore per la Conservazione ed il Restauro (ISCR), Rome, Italy, on 23rd‐27th October 2017.

The purpose of the workshop is to bring together scientists from around the world to share information on Bioerosion. The First International Bioerosion Workshop was held in Bornholm, Denmark in 1996, organized by Richard Bromley and Ulla Asgaard. The last IBW was hosted by the Department of Geography, Karoly Eszterhazy College in Eger, Hungary in 2014, organized by Árpád Dávid and Rozália Fodor.

The 9th IBW will focus on different aspects of bioerosion presented in three main topics: Bioerosion of natural and artificial substrates: stone, wood, building materials, coral reefs; Bioerosion and Cultural Heritage: stone and wooden artefacts in underwater and subaerial environments; and Bioerosion in Palaeoecology, Paleontology and Palaeoichnology.

The workshop will discuss the theme of bioerosion in Cultural Heritage for the first time. Participants will make new contacts and will have ample opportunities to share research outcomes, points of view and new techniques.

Participants are required to choose a presentation on one or more of the themes.

The workshop will comprise talks, poster sessions and field trips. We will provide meeting and laboratory facilities where the participants can examine and discuss the organisms involved in the alteration and breakdown of hard substrates. Therefore you are encouraged to bring along any samples, images and reprints for discussion.

Join us and welcome to the 9th IBW!
